SEOUL, South Korea – May 19, 2007 – Blizzard Entertainment® today unveiled StarCraft® II, the sequel to its award-winning real-time strategy game StarCraft, at the 2007 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea. The announcement took place inside the Olympic Gymnastics Arena, in front of thousands of attendees, who received a presentation that included a StarCraft II cinematic trailer and a gameplay demonstration by the development team.

Designed to be the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game, StarCraft II will feature the return of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races, overhauled and re-imagined with Blizzard's signature approach to game balance. Each race will be further distinguished from the others, with several new units and new gameplay mechanics, as well as new abilities for some of the classic StarCraft units that will be making a reappearance in the game. StarCraft II will also feature a custom 3D-graphics engine with realistic physics and the ability to render several large, highly detailed units and massive armies on-screen simultaneously.

"With StarCraft II, we'll be able to do everything we wanted to do with the original StarCraft and more," stated Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We recognize that expectations are high following the long-running popularity of the original game, but we plan to meet those expectations and deliver an engaging, action-packed, competitive experience that StarCraft players and strategy gamers worldwide will enjoy."

StarCraft II will include a unique single-player campaign, as well as fast-paced online play through an upgraded version of Blizzard's renowned online gaming service, Battle.net®. In addition, the game will come with a powerful, full-featured map editor that will put the same tools used by Blizzard's designers into the hands of players.

Blizzard is developing StarCraft II for simultaneous release on the Windows® and Macintosh® PC platforms. Further information about the game, including details on the single-player, multiplayer, and map-editor features, as well as system requirements, pricing, and availability, will be announced in the months ahead. The Shores of Evendim

The Next Chapter for The Lord of the Rings OnlineTM: Shadows of AngmarTM

The greatest fantasy of all time continues to expand! Beginning in May, heroes can adventure to the shores of Evendim, the first free update to The Lord of the Rings Online™. Less than a month after the launch of most complete and authentic recreation of Middle-earth, Turbine will deliver the first of many significant expansions to game. Beginning with Book 9: Evendim players will have an enormous new area to explore with over 60 new quests to complete. There are also major improvements to the popular music and monster play systems along with the first major raid in the game.

About 100 miles north of the Shire, in northern Eriador, lies the vast region of Evendim. The region is dominated by a large lake named Nenuial, the “Lake of the Twilight.” On the southern shore of the lake lies the ancient abandoned city of Annúminas—the former capital of the kingdom of Arnor. Legends of great wealth and powerful artifacts amidst the ruins of the capital are well known amongst the Free Peoples, and now these legends are beginning to attract the attention of evil creatures and the nefarious forces lurking in Angmar.

As the Fellowship continues its preparations to leave Rivendell, Aragorn is preparing to re-forge Narsil—the sword that cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand—into Anduril, Flame of the West. For the light to be returned to the blade, a relic must be found in the ancient tombs of Annúminas.

There are reports of an Ent roaming the forest of the Twilight Hills looking for the long-missing Entwives. He has dwelt in these hills since before the army of the last Alliance moved through to defeat Angmar and knows something of the events of that age.

AGOURA HILLS, Calif., Dec. 2: THQ Inc. (Nasdaq: THQI) today announced that the fourth installment of the epic Broken Sword series of games will be entitled "Broken Sword: The Angel of Death". In Broken Sword: The Angel of Death, gamers once again take the role of unwitting hero George Stobbart as he investigates dark secrets from a long-forgotten history. Uncovering a nefarious plot reignites an age-old rivalry between the world's most powerful factions, and exposes a secret that they have secretly fought over for millennia. A secret that will ultimately lead George's latest adventure to a painful and bitter conclusion.

"The Broken Sword franchise has long been at the forefront of conspiracy theory gaming," said Mickey Torode, senior global brand manager, THQ Inc. "With the considerable resurgence of interest in this field over the last few years, we're excited to be able to continue expanding the Broken Sword franchise, and deliver another gripping tale of secret plots, daring deeds and high adventure."

"Broken Sword: The Angel of Death has been designed from the puzzle upwards to create the most compelling, challenging gameplay as well as deliver an enthralling story that will appeal to both fans of the genre and newcomers alike."

About Broken Sword: The Angel of Death

VU Games announced that its first-person shooter, F.E.A.R., has completed development and will hit store shelves around the world October 18. The game was developed by Monolith Productions, the team behind The Matrix Online and the upcoming Condemned: Criminal Origins.

Paranormal meets paranoia in F.E.A.R., a haunting shooter that puts gamers in the combat boots of a new recruit in an elite fighting force. The F.E.A.R. team (First Encounter Assault Recon) goes into an aerospace compound that has been taken over by a deranged lunatic, only to find that he's amassed an army of his own.

VU Games is slowly instilling F.E.A.R. in gamers. Last month, a demo of the game gave players their first look at the spooky action by pitting them against a few of the levels in the single-player campaign. Later this month, the publisher will let gamers fear one another by releasing the game's multiplayer demo.

F.E.A.R. is rated M for Mature and will retail for $49.99. A director's edition of the game will also be available, which includes a behind-the-scenes featurette, a machinima from Rooster Teeth Productions, and more.

Activision doing a Marvel RPG

Following Microsoft's recent announcement that it had secured the rights to build massively-multiplayer games based on the Marvel universe of comic stars, Activision has extended its own agreement with Marvel to allow it to create traditional "non-persistent" RPGs. By which it presumably means something like X-Men Legends, except with more characters in it.

Under the terms of the deal, Activision has exclusive rights to develop various RPGs using "a broad, ensemble cast of characters from the Marvel Universe" on PC and consoles. The first game under the new agreement will be released in fiscal 2007.

Activision already has Marvel-licensed games like X-Men Legends II and Ultimate Spider-Man due out beforehand, and the rather pitiful Fantastic Four game is currently riding depressingly high in the All-Formats UK Chart - although these were all arranged under property-by-property deals.

This shouldn't affect any Marvel characters under the control of rival publishers, as this deal is worded to suggest a single series of multi-character games rather than the acquisition of rights to all the juicy ones in one go.

Indeed, Ames Kirshen, Marvel's vice president of interactive (a slightly abstract concept), seems to say as much. "Rather than focusing on just one character, this unique license enables Activision to develop role-playing games that tap a broader base of characters from Marvel's expansive universe," he says in today's statement.

Meanwhile, Activision's Ron Doornink is so confident of the importance of the deal, he abandons all sense of ambiguity by saying virtually the same thing twice in a row, declaring: "This agreement further strengthens and helps to solidify our position as the number one publisher of Super Hero games." Up, up and away! Wait, no, that's the other lot...

BioWare has revealed despite developing games exclusively for PC and Xbox up till now, and confirming support for the 360, it's also considering what the other next-gen consoles have to offer.

Speaking to US website GameSpot, BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka said: "We're actually looking at all the next-gen systems closely - they all look impressive, very interesting and powerful."

There's also a possibility that BioWare will start developing games for handheld systems, too.

"Ray and I are huge handheld fans," said co-CEO Greg Zeschuk. "We spent the entire time on the plane on the way down to LA playing Lumines.

"Can you imagine some of our RPGs on a handheld? All of a sudden, we've got these new handhelds that can actually handle it."

PC owners needn't worry that they'll be forgotten, though. "We certainly want to support our PC audience in the future too," says Muzyka.
